Turere lives near a national park. Lions often go out of the park and kill cows and other farm animals. Strong young men from his village used to kill the lions. (1)
“One night I was walking around with a torch, and that day the lions didn’t come. (2)
He got an old car battery, an indicator (转向指示灯) box from a motorcycle and a switch (开关). He put bulbs around the fence. The solar panel powered the battery, and the battery powered the indicator box. It then made the bulbs flash on and off just like someone was walking around with a torch.
His invention, Lion Lights, is a huge success and is used in Africa, Asia, and South America to protect farm animals.
“Several years ago I saw the planes flying over and I was like, one day I’ll be a pilot and an engineer,” he says. (3)
