一、阅读理解
①As we all know,"If you want to get rich, build roads first." Railway projects under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) have been interconnecting countries in Southeast Asia, bringing common development and friendship.
②The China-Laos Railway is a landmark project of the BRI. Running 1,035 kilometres,it connects Kunming with Laos' capital Vientiane. It started operation on Dec. 3,2021. The China-Laos Railway had transported over 100,000 cross-border passengers, reported Xinhua.
③According to Xinhua,Liu Jin,one of the first passengers of the railway, had travelled to Laos eight times, usually by bus and the journey lasted more than 27 hours on winding mountain roads. Now,the travel time between the cities has been shortened to 9 hours and 26 minutes.
④However,the China-Laos Railway isn't the only China-supported railway bringing benefits to people in Belt and Road countries. The 142.3-kilometre-long Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) has been officially in operation since Oct. 2,2023. Being a flagship project of the BRI,it is also the first overseas construction project that fully uses Chinese railway systems, technology and industrial components (零件).
⑤"Across Indonesia, people from more than 17,000 islands now come to Jakarta to take the high-speed rail," Chen Xianmou,a Chinese-Indonesian,proudly told China Daily at the railway station. "It's not only a landmark of Indonesia but also a representation of China's tech power," he added.
⑥Besides building railroads,China also plans to exchange the technology to Indonesia to help the local people to operate the high-speed railway system on their own in the coming years. To achieve this goal,China has trained more than 45,000 Indonesian technicians (技术员),reported China Daily.
