There are many deaf people in China. They need sign language to communicate with each other. Do you want to know about the Chinese Sign Language? The following are some easy gestures for daily life.
Bow your thumb(弯曲大拇指) twice. It means “thank you”.
Put the back of your hand under your jaw(下巴). It means “wait”.
Put your hand beside your forehead. It looks like you salute(敬礼) to someone. Then lower your hand to your chest and stick out(伸出) your little finger. It means “sorry”.
If you want to say “I am tired”, clench your fist(握紧拳头) and knock on the middle of the other arm.
There are more than 300 different sign languages all over the world. To make people know the importance of sign languages, in 2018 the United Nations chose September 23rd as the International Day of Sign Languages(IDSL). On that day, there are many activities in China. Last year, many volunteers taught sign language to doctors and nurses in a hospital in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.
It could help them communicate with deaf people better. In a library in Haikou, Hainan Province, children and sign language lovers learned to sing songs using sign language. They also played games together. Everyone had a great time there.
