“ When I was little,I always lost myself in buildings,” said Edna Blaise,29,from
Haiti,“ but it was not until I started my journey in China that I noticed Chinese arch it ec-
ture(建筑)has so many things to offer.”
Blaise is now studying architecture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
Before coming to China,Blaise expected the buildings in China to be in a traditional style
(风格)just like the ones she would see in movies.“ But after I came here,I found that
it's more developed now,” said Blaise.
It was her interest in math as well as her love for art that encouraged her to study
architecture.The subject perfectly connects these two fields.“ And because China is one
of the oldest countries,I think there,s a lot I can learn here,” Blaise said.“ The skills
they have are better than those in a lot of other countries."
“ Outside of class,I like to go to different places around the city where I can see
ancient Chinese architecture like ‘ Gu gong' and ‘ Qian men'.I' m hoping to find some
ideas for my design(设计)from these beautiful landmarks,” Blaise said.She usually has
her camera with her on these trips to take photos of something interesting.By doing
this,she can learn from Chinese traditional architecture and put traditional ideas into her
designs.
