When we are babies, we don't have any teeth. But as we grow up, our first set of teeth come out. These are called milk teeth, or baby teeth.
Milk teeth are called "milk" teeth because they come out when we're young and can only drink milk. But when we get older, the milk teeth start falling out to let the permanent teeth (恒牙) come out. When a milk tooth falls out, the permanent tooth starts to grow in its place.
Milk teeth are smaller and more fragile (脆弱的) than our permanent teeth, but they're quite useful. They can help us shape the jaws Also, they help us chew (咀嚼) food and learn how to speak.
By the time we are 2 or 3 years old, we have a full set of 20 milk teeth. Around age 6 or 7, our milk teeth start falling out one by one. When we are about 12 years old, most of us lose all of our baby teeth and get our full set of permanent teeth.
It's natural for us to lose milk teeth when we're growing up. It means that our bodies are getting ready for our growth.
1. Why are milk teeth called "milk" teeth?
2. How are milk teeth different from our permanent teeth?
3. When our milk teeth start falling out, what does it mean?
