Tropical rainforests(热带雨林) live up to their name. They are forests where it rains a lot. In fact, a tropical rainforest receives between 150 and 400 centimetres of rain each year. They are also warm. Their temperature is between 25℃ and 35℃. Forests are green all year round. Their hot, wet and rainy weather is perfect for tall trees and other plants. The really thick parts of forests are what we call jungle.
The Amazon rainforest lies in South America. It is the largest tropical rainforest in the world. It has more kinds of plants and animals than any other place on the earth. Every year, scientists discover new kinds of

So how big is the Amazon River? The Amazon River can be more than 48 kilometres at its widest point during the rainy season. It runs almost 6,437 kilometres to the Atlantic Ocean. Within its mouth(河口) is an island the size of Switzerland. The river's arapaima fish can grow to be 3 metres long and weigh 180 kilograms. Its volume(水量) is greater than the next eight largest rivers added together.
