C
Not long ago as I stood in the security line at Los Angeles International Airport, I couldn't help but notice the family in front of me.
The mother got her hands full, traveling with her 8 - year - old son, as well as a baby daughter in a stroller(婴儿车). Besides, she was pulling a car seat and two backpacks. As they waited for their turn, I noticed the boy kept trying to go beyond the rope barrier(障碍). This mother calmly instructed him to stop several times, never losing her temper.
When she was ready to get the baby out of the stroller to go through the security scanner(扫描仪), the boy pushed past the rope barrier and into the forbidden area, causing a security guard to come over and loudly scold(训斥) him.
The mother stopped between her son and the security guard, and promised it wouldn't happen again. It became clear that this young boy had some special needs—feeling scared, he covered his ears and dropped to the floor in a small ball. Without hesitation, this mother knelt down and spoke softly but firmly to her son, explaining that he would get in very big trouble with the security guard if he crossed the line again. Then she hugged and kissed him on the forehead before standing up to once again untie her baby from the stroller.
I wanted to step in and help, and just as I was about to offer help, that mother was motioned forward to go through the security scanner. Everyone in line breathed a sigh of relief as she made it through security on the very first try.
That amazing mother looked after both of her children, dealing with the unexpected situation with grace, dignity(尊严) and love. “If they have medals for motherhood, she surely deserves one!” I thought in just those 15 minutes when I watched her.
