Charles Robert Darwin is a naturalist. He is best known for his work on the theory of evolution(进化论).
Darwin was born on the 12th of February, 1809 in Shrewsbury. His father was a doctor. Following in the footsteps of his father, Darwin began to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh. However, he soon realized that this was not the dream job for him and then he moved to Cambridge to train himself for a job in the church. He was especially interested in natural history and he was offered the chance to travel the world as a naturalist. In 1831, Darwin had a long journey on the warship(军舰) H.M.S. Beagle which lasted for about five years to explore(探索) the world. It was his job to make notes about the animals, plants and geology(地质学) of the countries that he visited.
Darwin explored many countries and he discovered lots of new species on his travels. His theory of evolution was important and changed the way that scientists viewed the world. Recent scientific studies have shown that Darwin’s theory of evolution was an exact science. Even though more than 100 years have passed since Darwin first published his books, his ideas are still talked about today.
