Marilla's voice shook as she said she felt she had to sell their beloved home to pay for care.

Some neighbours considered (认为) Anne foolish for giving up her studies, but Anne and Marilla did not mind. Each evening they sat together by the front gate, felt the cool air, and smelled the flowers in the garden. They held hands, shared quiet words, and felt calm and happy.
