Every Chinese New Year, I go home to my grandparents' house in the countryside. As soon as I arrive, my mother and I sweep the front yard and dust the shelves in the living room. After that, my father helps us wipe the windows, and we laugh as cold air blows in.

After dinner, we go outside to light firecrackers (鞭炮). The bright lights and loud pops remind me of fun times when I was little. My grandparents sit on the doorsteps and tell stories about past festivals. I love to hear those stories.
On New Year's Day, we visit our neighbours and cousins. We give them red envelopes and say "Happy New Year!" In the afternoon, I join my father in the small garden. I water the plants and cut a few old branches from the plum tree, so it grows strong.
Coming home for the Spring Festival fills me with warmth and energy for the new year.
