Regata Storica(赛船节) in Venice
Venice is the city of water. You can find many boats instead of cars there. In Venice, this festival takes place every first Sunday in September. It started because of a girl from Venice named Caterina. Caterina married a king of another country, but she loved Venice very much. After the King’s death, Caterina came back to Venice. People in Venice held a boat parade to welcome her, and then they held the parade every year afterwards. Now it is Regata Storica.
Pizza Festival in Italy
Pizza is an Italian food. In 1889, a baker in Naples made the first pizza. Naples celebrates the Pizza Festival every year in September. It is a week-long festival. Chefs from the world’s most famous pizza restaurants all come for the festival. They show off and compete.
Maslenitsa in Russia
In Russia, there’s a festival to say goodbye to winter—Maslenitsa. People celebrate it for one week every year at the beginning of March. During the festival, people wear beautiful clothes and walk in the streets. They also make and eat delicious Russian blinis(小薄饼). The blini is a symbol of the sun.
Clown Festival in Mexico
Mexico City holds an International Clown Festival every year. Hundreds of people from around the world join the big party, and they dress as clowns. They perform for kids. There is also an activity—they laugh together for 15 minutes.
Water Festival in Thailand
The best time to visit Thailand is at the end of March or the beginning of April, because it is the time of the biggest festival in Thailand—the Water Festival. It is the beginning of their New Year. Before the festival, people clean their houses and cook nice food. During the festival, people sing, dance and splash water on each other. They mink that water can wash away bad things and bring good luck.
