二、阅读与表达
William lived in a small African village. His family was poor, and there was no electricity there. At night, they used oil lamps (油灯) to see things. But oil was too expensive for his parents to buy.
One day, William read a book. It told him how to make electricity with a windmill (风车). "This is great!" he thought. Even though he didn't know what a windmill looked like, he decided to try.
First, he needed to get all the things for the windmill. He and his cousin looked through the rubbish in nearby villages. They kept looking until they found everything they needed. Then, William started making the windmill. After farm work, he spent hours studying and working. Many times he failed, but he didn't give up.
Finally, the windmill was ready. He put it on a wooden tower. When the wind blew, the windmill turned. He connected a light bulb with a wire (电线). Suddenly, the bulb lit up! The villagers cheered. William jumped happily. Later, he built another windmill for the village. Even though he was poor, William worked hard and brought light to his village.
1. Why did William's family have to use oil lamps at night?
2. How did William get the idea of making electricity with a windmill?
3. What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?
4. What can we learn from William's story?
