C
Li Nan, a disabled woman from Beijing, has found meaning in her life by helping others, even though her body faces challenges. In 2003, a car accident made the 25-year-old woman unable to move her legs. After five years of treatment, her life changed when she became a volunteer for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. There, she found her new purpose.
Later, Li joined "Sweet Home", a group that helps disabled people with recovery (康复), jobs, and fun activities. She shared stories of disabled people's successes with athletes from 19 countries. ★, her message touched many. In 2012, she started the "Li Nan Social Work Station", bringing together over 60 volunteers to help the elderly, disabled, and children.
During the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games (冬季残奥会), Li's team taught people about the Olympics. They also let workers from companies experience disabilities themselves, helping people understand their challenges. With her special wheelchair, Li now lives on her own and works to make society more inclusive for disabled people. "Volunteering gave me a second life," she says.
