Here's how we tell the time. We look at clocks,watches,or our smartphones. But there's an old way to measure(测量)time. It's called a sundial.

A sundial uses(使用)the sun to show us the time. When the sun shines,it makes a shadow(影子)on the sundial. In the morning,the shadow is long. When the sun is high in the sky at noon,the shadow is short. Then,in the afternoon,the shadow becomes long again. We can't use a sundial at night because there's no sun.
