(2025·长沙期末改编)“A good book is easy to find.” That is the message on a board in Hernando Guanlao's home in Manila, Philippines. Hernando's home is filled with books. And the 73-year-old man has turned his home into a public(公共的) library. He hopes his library can encourage young people to read.
His library has books for readers of all interests. There is no membership, borrower's card or ID needed. Everyone can borrow(借) books inside for free. He calls his library Reading Club 2000. There are many different kinds of books for students to read and enjoy. “I hope people can share with their friends when they finish reading,” Hernando said.
Hernando shows his books outside the door of his house for more than twenty years. Over the years, his books have grown greatly thanks to warm-hearted donors(捐赠者). Speaking of the donors, Hernando said, “They just leave boxes of books outside my house. I don't even know who they are.” Hernando has also started giving away books himself. He sends books to public schools in far-away places.
“My job is to give away used books to others and to promote(推动) education through books,” Hernando said.
