B
When Charley woke up one morning, he looked out of the window. He saw everything was white. There was so much snow on the ground. On one side of the house near the kitchen, the snow was piled (堆放) higher than Charley.
“We must have a small road through the snow, ” said Charley's father. “But I must get to the office early this morning. Could you make the small road, my son? ”
“Me? Why? The snow is higher than me! How could I? ” said Charley.
“By doing it little by little. Just try, ” said the father, and then he left for his office.
Charley started to work. He threw the snow one shovelful (一铲) after another, but it was slow work.
“I don't think I can do it, Mom, ” he said. “A shovelful is so little, and there's so much snow. ”
“Little by little, Charley, ” said his mother. “It snows flake (小薄片) by flake, but you see how much snow here is. ”
“Mom, I see, ” said Charley. Then he kept on working.
When Charley's father came home for dinner, he was glad to see a small road. The next day he gave Charley a blue sled (雪橇), and there were yellow letters on it, “Little by little. ”
