I Endangered animals—Asian elephants
① Elephants are the biggest animals on land. They like to live in groups. They stay with their family even when they grow up.
② Elephants are very big and heavy, but they are very good swimmers. They are very strong, too. They can do many things with their long trunks.
③ People hunt them for their tusks. So there are fewer and fewer elephants now.
④ In Thailand, people make elephants carry heavy things. A lot of them died because of the hard work
⑤ People also train them cruelly for a circus show. Many elephants hurt badly or die because of the training.
⑥ There were lots of Asian elephants in the past. But in 2003, there were only about 30,000 Asian elephants in the world.
⑦ To protect elephants, we shouldn’t buy ivories. We shouldn’t watch elephant shows, either.
⑧ Elephants need our help. If we work together to protect elephants, we can save them.
