II A great painter—Leonardo da Vinci

① Leonardo da Vinci was a famous painter. He painted many famous pictures all his life.
② When Leo was a little kid, he was interested in painting. So his mother sent him to an art teacher.

③ On the first day, the teacher put an egg on the table and asked Leo to draw it.
④ Leo was very clever and soon finished drawing. He was very proud.

⑤ But the next day, the teacher still put an egg on the table and asked Leo to draw. Leo looked at the egg. He was sure it was the one he drew yesterday.
⑥ Leo didn’t understand. “Why do you always ask me to draw an egg?” he asked his teacher. The teacher didn’t answer the question but asked Leo to observe carefully.

⑦ Then Leo noticed that the egg on the plate was different from the one he drew yesterday.
⑧ Leo learnt that one should observe carefully before drawing. He painted better and better as he grew older.
