二、短篇阅读
China has made progress in protecting endangered animals and plants. Through man-made breeding( 繁殖 ) programs, animals like Milu deer( 麋鹿, now 10,000) and Przewalski’s horses( 普氏野马, 700) have grown in numbers. Giant pandas increased from 1,114 in the 1980s to 1,864, and Tibetan antelopes( 藏羚羊) rose from 60,000 to over 300,000.
More than 200 plant gardens now protect 20,000 kinds of plants. Rare plants, including 112 unique to China, have been brought back to nature. Laws against illegal( 非法 ) selling or buying of wildlife, have become stricter.
By 2025, China aims to protect 75% of wild animals and 80% of plants. Recent success includes nine baby Milu deer born in a nature reserve thanks to breeding programs. These efforts, along with monitoring and reserves, help build a future for all life.
