一、阅读理解
|题目|体裁|字数|难度|建议用时|实际用时|____分钟|____/4|
The morning after I got the news that my best firefighter friend, Sean Misner, died in an Arizona wildfire in June, I created a social media platform page in his honour. ①
Sean and I were like brothers. We met when playing baseball at the age of 8. We went through life's ups and downs together. He was 26 when he died. ②
I was in shock when I found out friends of his posted photos and information on his page. I set up a way for people to donate money to Sean's wife, Amanda, and their unborn son, right through the social media platform.
My sister is a reporter, and she suggested that we set everything up quickly while the fire was getting national attention. In the first couple of days, Sean's page got 2,000 likes. Today, it has more than 27,000 likes. ③
When Sean's family drove his ashes(骨灰) 500 miles away from Prescott, Arizona, to his home in Santa Ynez, California, firefighters had been standing on every highway bridge.
I was surprised at how much it comforted me to see that other people cared. Strangers were sending messages, offering the baby clothes to Amanda and we've raised about 10,000 for his son's education. One post is from a little boy in Nevada who says after hearing about Sean, he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. ④ People post messages about what a hero Sean was and they're right. There is a lot of love on that page. I believe one day, when Sean's son, Sean Jaxon, is old enough, he will see how respected his father was through this page.
Each time I miss Sean, I visit the page, and it makes me smile. On my birthday or his birthday or some special dates, I'll read the messages and look at the photos that people have posted. It's a way for me to keep his memory alive.
