五、阅读故事,补全思维导图。
A long, long time ago, there was a scary monster(可怕的怪兽) named Nian. On the last day of the Chinese lunar calendar(农历), Nian would come out to look for food. His favourite food was little children! People in the village were very afraid. They ran into the mountains to hide.

One year, an old man came to the village and said, "I know how to scare Nian away! He's afraid of the colour red, bright(明亮的) lights and loud noise." That night, when Nian came to the village, he saw red everywhere, heard loud bangs and ran away.

From that year on, Nian never came back. The villagers continued to put up red couplets, light lanterns and set off firecrackers every year. People say this is how the Chinese New Year traditions began—and why we still celebrate(庆祝) this way today!
