(C)阅读短文,完成下列各题。
Last week I went hiking with my friends as usual, but we walked a different way. We went up and up the mountain for hours. Suddenly we stopped and looked around—where were we? We couldn't see the city. We didn't know which way was north, east, south or west.
"Does anyone have a compass?" I asked. But no one had one because we thought we knew the way! Luckily, our teacher had taught us how to make a compass. All I needed was a metal needle(金属针), a small bowl of water, a leaf and a magnet(磁铁).
A friend found a needle and a magnet in his bag and gave me his bowl. I poured some water from my bottle into the bowl and picked a small leaf from a tree.
The magnet was too heavy to float(漂浮), so I needed to make the needle into a magnet. This was how I did it. First, I rubbed(摩擦) the needle 50 times against the magnet, so that it could point north. Next, I put the needle on the top of the leaf. Then, I carefully put the leaf with the needle in the bowl of water. Finally, I waited for the needle to turn and point north. And that was how we found our way home!
