A report found that Singapore's students are still top in the world of math and science. The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is a survey done every four years. It looks at math and science skills among students in the fourth grade of elementary and in the second year of junior high school—students aged 9 to 10, and 13 to 14.

The 2023 survey, published in December 2024, included almost 360,000 fourth-grade students from 58 countries, and just under 300,000 second-year junior high school students from 44 countries.
Students took computer-based tests. Students, parents and teachers were surveyed about students' home and school environments, and their attitudes to learning.
The same five countries and regions ranked highest for math at both levels of school, with Singapore, China's Taiwan Province and South Korea taking the top three spots. Hong Kong of China and Japan took the fourth and fifth spots. In the junior high school level, they exchanged positions.
Singaporean students also ranked highest for science at both school levels.
*It was found that 53% of younger students and 40% of older students say they "very much" like learning science. However, only 44% of younger students and just 21% of older students say they "very much" like learning math.
