五、阅读理解。(20分)
Last month my grandma died. Yesterday my mum and I went to her home and looked around a bit. It was the house where so many memories lived... feeding birds in the backyard, sitting on the grass playing cards and drinking lemonade, rolling balls down the front hill. In the weeks after she died, it was so hard to be in the house without her.
She'd lived a simple life and hadn't left much behind. We weren't looking for money or anything valuable—we just wondered what kinds of things we might find.
In the living room, I saw Grandma's rocking chair. For as long as I could remember, she'd sat in that chair, knitting(编织)things and watching TV. I thought for a moment about taking it home with me, but it was far too big for my living room. Besides, I thought... I'm not old yet.
Then my mum came in and looked at the same chair. “Ah, it's Mum's rocking chair. You know, when I was a newborn, your grandma would nurse me and put me to sleep while rocking in that chair. And when you were born, I did the same,” she said. I had no idea about the chair's history. For years, it stayed in our family and helped my mother and my grandmother deal with the challenges of new motherhood. My husband and I had been talking recently about possibly having a child of our own.
“I think I'll take the chair home with me, if you don't mind,” I said to my mother. “Not at all,” she replied, with a knowing look in her eyes.
1. Why did the writer and her mother go to Grandma's home?
A. To find something valuable.
B. To see how Grandma lived.
C. To look for money that was left behind.
D. To see what they could find.
2. Which of the following about the house is NOT true?
A. It has a hill in the front yard.
B. It has a backyard.
C. There's grass in the yard.
D. There's a rocking chair in the living room.
3. The underlined word “newborn” means “______” in Chinese.
A. 新生儿 B. 儿童
C. 成人 D. 少年
4. What's the best title for the passage?
A. Memories lost in an old house
B. Visiting an old house again
C. Remembering my grandmother
D. Finding something in an old house
