阅读下面的短文,从每题所给的选项中选出最佳选项
For centuries, the pyramids of Giza have been forever symbols of Egyptian culture. For years, we did not know for sure who actually built them. Were they built by foreigners or slaves? Recently researchers discovered an ancient village near the pyramids and offered another choice. Close by there was a cemetery where bodies of pyramid builders were found. From studying these places, we are now sure that Egyptians completed the job on their own.
It took almost eighty years to build the pyramids and about 20,000 to 30,000 people were included in the job. The workers had different work to do. Some dug up the rocks, some moved them, and some cut them into different shapes. People also worked on different teams, each with its own name. The teams often competed to do a job faster.
Life for these workers was hard and we can see that in the skeletons from bodies found in the cemetery. The bones show their arthritis developed from carrying rocks which weighed about 150—200 kilos each for a long time. Many women's skeletons were also found in the village and cemetery. The damage to their bones is similar to that of the men. Their lives may have been even harder: Men workers lived to ages 40—45, but women to only 30—35. However, workers usually had enough food, and they also had medical care if they got sick or hurt.
On a wall in Khufu's Great Pyramid, a group of workers wrote “Friends of Khufu”. “It's because they were not just building the pyramids,” says a local Egyptian. “They were building Egypt. It was a national project and everyone joined it.”
