Miss White asked, “Who knows what a pen pal is?”
Some kids raised (举起) their hands.
“A pen pal is someone you write letters to,” said Kate.
“A pen pal is someone you don't know,” added (补充道) Lily.
“You're both right,” said Miss White. “Children, each of you will get a pen pal from another school. Your pen pal will write you a letter. Then you will write back.”
The class was excited. Kate hoped her pen pal would be a girl.
One day, Kate's mum said, “Here's a letter for you, Kate.”
Kate jumped up. “It's from my pen pal!” said Kate.
