四、阅读理解。

One hot summer afternoon, Rabbit bragged(吹牛) to the forest animals, "I can run faster than anyone in the forest!" Turtle replied calmly, "Then race me to the river. " Rabbit laughed at Turtle's short legs, but he agreed. When the rooster crowed(打鸣) three times, the race started. Rabbit raced ahead like the wind, leaving Turtle far behind.
Under a shady tree, Rabbit thought, "Turtle is too slow to win!" He lay down for a nap, thinking, "I'll win easily anyway. " Meanwhile, Turtle kept moving step by step without stopping, her feet leaving marks in the dry soil.
As the sun began to set, Rabbit woke up. He saw Turtle just steps away from the river! He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. Turtle reached the water first and won the race. The watching frogs cheered loudly. Panting and ashamed, Rabbit mumbled, "How?" Turtle said, "Slow steps beat a lazy runner. " The animals never forgot this lesson.
