二、阅读理解
"Is Toad a nice animal?" asked Mole, as Rat rowed the boat.
"Yes," replied Rat. "Toad is very kind. But he's not very clever. And he is a little, well ... boastful(自吹自擂的), but I like Toad very much."
They travelled along the river. Rat sang a song about ducks. Soon they saw Toad Hall, Toad's house. It was a lovely old house by the river with beautiful gardens.
"There's Toad Hall," said Rat. "Toad is very rich, you know." Rat and Mole found Toad in the garden. He was looking at a big map.
"Mole and Rat!" he cried. "Oh! It's great to see you! And you can help me—it's very important."
"Do you want help with your boat?" asked Rat.
"Boat? Oh, no!" said Toad. "Boats are stupid(愚蠢的)! I hate boats. I have a new thing now. Come and see."
Rat and Mole went with Toad to the back of the house. There they saw the new thing—it was a Gypsy caravan(大篷车). It was yellow and green with red wheels.
"Look, look!" cried Toad. Mole was very excited. Mole went up the steps into the caravan with Toad. It was very small, but very nice. There were three little beds. There was a little table, a cooker, bookshelves and a bird cage with a bird in it.
"It's perfect!" said Toad. He opened a cupboard. "Look," he cried, "food, drink, paper and cards. It's ready for our journey this afternoon."
"What?" said Rat. "Our journey and this afternoon?"
"Now, Rat," said Toad, "please, please come with me! We can see the world—together!"
"No," said Rat. "I don't want to see the world. I want to stay on my river. And Mole wants to stay on the river too. Don't you, Mole?"
"Err ... Yes, of course," said Mole, sadly. He looked at the yellow and green caravan. Then he looked at Toad.
