If you plan to travel, please think about Todmorden. This small town in England is teaching the world how important it is to grow your own food.
From the churchyard to the fire station, along the sidewalks and in school gardens, any open space is used to grow fruit and vegetables. There are apples, pears, peaches, strawberries, cabbages and carrots here and there. Everyone can pick them for free.
Eight years ago, a woman named Pam in Todmorden dug up her rose garden. She planted vegetables, knocked down the garden wall, and put up a sign saying, "Help yourself!" Today, Pam has completely changed the town. A new town has been born, which is called "Incredible Edible (可食用的) Todmorden".
Pam explained why she thought out the popular idea. "It is possible and positive (积极的). Many people know we have to change, but how we do it is a question."
So one day, she gathered (集齐) all the villagers together. They decided to do something different at once. They didn't write reports. They didn't ask for permission. They just did it. Only a short time later, Todmorden became a big garden full of fruit and vegetables. In Todmorden, there is a motto: If you eat, you're in.
