D.      The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens(雅典), Greece in 1896. The founder of modern Olympic Games was a French government offcial(政府官员). The Olympic Games are the World’s most important sports event. They are held once four years, and have many traditions(惯例). A special Olympic flame(火焰) is lit(点燃) in Olympic, Greece. Runners will carry it to the country which will host(主办) the games. Many people hope the Olympic Games can be held in their own countries. At an IOC(奥委会) meeting, the IOC’s first vice president(副主席) Richard W. Pound said, “The host city of the Olympic Games of 2008 will be decided at the IOC meeting in Moscow in July this year. Beijing is getting ready for them because it nearly became the host of the Olympic Games of 2000, and Toronto and Paris also have strong power.”

       The Olympic Games of 2000 were held in Sydney. Our players did very well

in Games. Now we are very excited and we are looking forward to the Olympic

Games because they have never been held before in our country.
