三、阅读表达 成人礼
素养:文化意识 难度:中 用时:7 分钟
When children grow up, they have a birthday every year. But in modern China, if children are eighteen, the birthday will be special. It's the celebration of coming of age.
In ancient China, the coming-of-age ceremony(成人礼) was very important for young people. According to Liji(《礼记》), it meant sharing family duties(责任). After the ceremony, the young people would be called “adults”.
At the coming-of-age ceremony, after all the guests(客人) sat down, the parents would give a short talk. A respected elder would hold this ceremony, wash hands and do the guan li or ji li. The child would kneel on the ground and listen to his or her parents. After showing thanks to guests, he or she could stand next to his or her parents as a real adult.
In modern China, many Chinese young people choose to celebrate their eighteenth birthday by having a birthday party, having a family meal or taking a trip. Their parents usually prepare a big family meal and the family can have a good talk during the meal. In their opinion, celebrating their birthday by taking a trip is free and relaxing. They can also enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the way, meet new people, enjoy different kinds of dishes and learn about local customs.
The coming-of-age ceremony in some schools is becoming popular now. Young people like taking photos to record(记录) this special event. More and more people wear traditional clothes to attend the ceremony. They make better plans for their future life. Some of them also choose to do something good.
