B
I ran from table to table of hungry customers. “Char siu bao (叉烧包),” I called out. Knowing I wanted to have some new experiences, my parents agreed to let me help at the restaurant on weekends.
After working for hours, I took a break and enjoyed Grandma’s cooking at the tiny table on the ground behind the restaurant. As I was about to eat my food, I noticed something strange. Our bins had been turned over the ground. “How could these have fallen?” I wondered. After having my meal, I found my dad. We quickly picked up the mess and went back to the restaurant. When we came to the back of the restaurant again, the bins had been kicked to the ground. So I found three heavy rocks and placed them on the top of the bins.
But the next morning, the bins were kicked to the ground again. “Why does this keep happening?” I looked around carefully, hoping to find someone, but I failed.
Finally, I noticed two yellow eyes staring at me. It was a cat. The cat was trying to get the half-eaten char siu bao inside the bins. “So you are the one that keeps leaving a mess for us to clean up,” I said.
Suddenly it rained heavily. The cat hid under the table. I went to the restaurant and asked Grandma for some food. I walked quickly to the cat and fed it. The cat liked the bao very much. Just then, Grandma appeared at the door. “Grandma, meet my new friend. He loves the smell of your cooking.” Grandma said with a smile, “Well, my menu will include some cat-friendly bao.”
