二、阅读理解
A
After a long day of work, there is nothing better than a good night’s sleep! Just like on the Earth, a person in space goes to bed at night, wakes up the next day and gets ready for work all over again. Astronauts(宇航员) have the same sleeping hours as they do on the Earth. But sleeping in space is a little different from sleeping on the Earth.
In space, there is no up or down and everything floats around slowly. You don’t need a soft bed because your body doesn’t rest on the bed. You are actually sleeping in the air. So astronauts cannot sleep anywhere they want. They often sleep in special sleeping bags which are usually fixed to a wall, a seat or a bed. In this way, they won’t float around and bump into something. So the sleeping bags can help them sleep safely.
They usually go to bed at 10:00 p.m. and get up at 6:00 in the morning. To make sure the spaceship works well, they take turns to go to bed. In that case, the astronauts also need an alarm clock to tell them when it’s time to wake up.
Astronaut Eileen Collins says, “I usually sleep very well because I find it very easy to sleep in space. I can get enough sleep every day.” Eileen Collins is lucky to be able to sleep well in space. However, most astronauts don’t. Like on the Earth, they may wake up in the middle of their sleep to use the washrooms. They may also have dreams and nightmares. Though they sometimes have problems on sleeping, they keep on working hard the next day.
