二、阅读与表达
“Today, Niki will clean the floor,” our mother said. It was time to do our weekly house-work. Our mother already had everything planned.
I started to sweep the floor. My brother Ben took the detergent (洗衣粉) to clean the win-dows and my sister Sarah took out the iron (熨斗). All of us had something to do. However, as I was not good at cleaning, I did not do a good job. In the end, my mother had to clean the floor again. Ben was clumsy (笨拙的). He splattered (泼溅) the detergent all over the floor and the sofa. My mother was exasperated. She decided to take over. Sarah was the only one who was do-ing a good job. She ironed one piece of clothing after another. However, she was ironing my mother's dress when her favorite advertisement came on television. Putting down everything, she watched the advertisement for a new toy carefully. She did not notice the smoke coming from the iron until she heard our mother shouting.
Our mother was so angry that she took over the ironing, too.
Finally, we watched TV and ate potato chips. Mom said we were not good at housework. However, we knew that she would ask us to do housework again the next time.
