B
Skydiving has always been the top thing I want to experience! I've often imagined the thrill of jumping out of an aeroplane and free falling and floating gently to earth after pulling the parachute cord ( 降落伞绳 ). On my last birthday, I finally had the chance to try it - not in a traditional way!
I arrived at an indoor skydiving centre with great expectation and nervousness. The centre is equipped with a vertical wind tunnel (VWT) that allows people to experience free fall without a plane.
A VWT has fans at the top to pull air up through a flight chamber ( 飞行室 ) - the column that you step into to fly. The air is then pushed down the sides of the chamber and recirculated ( 再循环 ) back up into the chamber again. The fans can create wind at a speed of around 250 kilometres per hour in flight chambers, which reach about 5 metres in diameter and 17 metres in height. This process results in a safe cushion of air to float on.
After I arrived at the centre, I received some important instructions on how to position my body in the flight chamber. Next I was given a flight suit, a pair of trainers, a helmet, earplugs and goggles. The instructors helped me to put them on.
When it was finally my turn, I followed the instructions that I had learnt step by step. Immediately my body became horizontal as I lifted off the ground. After positioning me properly, the instructor released me, and I was “flying” on my own! I felt extremely excited when my instructor and I flew straight towards the top of the chamber!
I'll never forget this precious experience in my life. Maybe someday I'll really jump out of a plane, but for now, indoor skydiving is the perfect choice for me.
6. When did the author try indoor skydiving for the first time? (no more than 5 words)
7. How could a person float in the flight chamber? (no more than 20 words)
8. What equipment did the author wear before the flight? (no more than 15 words)
9. Would you like to have a try of indoor skydiving? Why or why not? (no more than 25 words)
