B
Alex was a giraffe in a zoo. As he grew up, his neck was much shorter than the others’. He became unhappy. His mother said to him, “You are special. Your neck is OK. You don’t have to worry about it.”
Alex tried not to think about this. But as his friends’ necks grew longer and longer, his neck still stayed short. He could not even play giraffe sports very well. Sometimes they laughed at him. His parents told him not to worry about that and suggested that he should accept (接受) himself.
One day, a worker in a zoo came and took Alex away. It made him feel very scared. Alex said to himself, “Will I have to leave the zoo because of my short neck?” He was very sad. After the worker made Alex calm down, he gave Alex some food. And he was kind to Alex. Alex felt better. Then the worker took Alex to another area of the zoo. There was a small door between two areas. This door was only suitable for Alex to pass through. Other giraffes couldn’t go through because they were too tall.
Soon Alex’s parents came to see him. “My dear, you are special!” his mother said. “The zoo workers made a place for you because people wanted to see you. How special you are!” She was right. Visitors pointed to him and shouted in surprise. They looked happy to see such a special and cute animal in the zoo.
