Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was a famous scientist. He is known for his work on gravity(重力) and light.

What was Isaac’s childhood like?
Isaac was born on December 25th, 1642, in a small village named Woolsthorpe. He lived with his grandmother before he went to school.

Isaac’s mother wanted him to be a farmer and look after their farm. But Isaac thought farming was not the right job for him.
What did Isaac learn about?
In 1661, Isaac went to the University of Cambridge. At first, he studied old ideas about nature(自然) from ancient(古代的) Greece. One of these ideas was that the Earth was the center of the universe(宇宙). Later, Isaac became interested in new science ideas. He liked doing experiments to learn more about the world.
What important discoveries did Isaac make?
Many people in Cambridge got sick with the plague(传染病), so Isaac went back to his home in Lincolnshire.
Isaac did many experiments at home. He made his most important discoveries there. He studied light and found out that white light is made up of many colors.
There is a famous story: An apple fell from a tree and hit his head. This made him think about gravity. He wondered why things fall down instead of up. Later, he found that the same force keeps the Moon moving around the Earth. He showed his ideas with three laws of motion(三大运动定律).
