Ⅲ. 阅读下面短文,回答问题。
The idea of Friendship Day came in 1930 from Joyce Hall, a greeting card seller. He wanted celebrations to occur on August 2 each year. The holiday didn't last long in the United States as many people thought it was a trick (骗局) for selling greeting cards.
In 1958, the World Friendship Crusade, an international organization, decided International Friendship Day on July 30. Because they believed it could bring peace through friendship. In 2011 the United Nations announced (宣布) July 30 International Friendship Day. The officials (官员) hoped this would help bring people of different cultures and countries to work together for a peaceful world. Interestingly, some countries, such as Spain, and Brazil celebrate this holiday on July 20, while other countries like Malaysia, and India celebrate on the first Sunday of August.
To celebrate International Friendship Day, governments (政府) and organizations are encouraged to host events that focus on understanding different cultures and views. However, there are many other ways to join in on the International Friendship Day festivities. For example, you can surprise your friends with a self-made gift to show just how much you care about them. If you haven't heard from your friends in a while, why not give them a call? You may also make new friends by taking part in an event hosted in your neighborhood.
All in all, this day is a great chance to think about the friendships you've made so far and find ways to develop some new friends.
