五、阅读理解
(2025·江苏省苏州市中考模拟)I'm forty and it's been sixteen years since I left school. Although I have few regrets about my education, there are a few things I wish I'd known earlier as a girl.
1. Keep trying even if you fail.
As kids, we try new things fearlessly. If we make mistakes, we keep trying until we learn. But once school starts, parents and teachers usually only praise us when we do things perfectly. What happens? We stop trying new things because we're afraid of getting them wrong. I now remind myself: "I refuse to quit halfway until I make it."
2. Compare yourself to yourself.
I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than I was, I felt terrible. But now, instead of comparing myself to others, I ask: "Did I give my best effort?"
3. Don't worry too much.
How much energy do we waste worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear never happen. If they happen, then they will most often not be as bad as you expected. Yes, most fears are imaginary. In 6 months, you probably won't even remember most of the things you worry about now.
If I could go back in time, I would tell my younger self these three important lessons. They would have helped me face challenges with more confidence.
