When people follow fashion, it can bring fashion waste and harm our planet. To solve the problem, designers from around the world are working hard to make fashion greener.
Creative clothes
On March 4 this year, an Irish student, Ramsey, 17, won a global fashion competition on TV. She made a dress using 2, 000 mussel shells (蚌壳). She collected these shells from a local restaurant. She said that she has made many friends at the competition. They all share the same love of creative recycling, that is, to make something new and beautiful out of used things.
3D - printed clothing store
A clothing store made of 3D - printed recycled plastic opened in Spain in 2023. The walls, shelves and tables inside the store are made from 3.3 tons of plastic waste. What’s more, the clothing in the store is made of recycled things like plastic bottles and used tyres. It is all about going green.
Biodegradable(可生物降解的) school bag
Many school bags are made of things that could take hundreds of years to break down. To solve the problem, an institution in London made the world’s first biodegradable bag in 2022.
Once children are done with it, the school must - have can go into a bin where it will break down in less than a year. The bag looks like leather but is actually made from plants and green waste.
From rubbish to fashion
Did you know that even rubbish can find its way into fashion? The Rubbish to Runway fashion show takes place in the US every year. At the event, people make clothes using all kinds of things that could be thrown away, such as old newspapers, bottle caps and shopping bags. One designer even put used teddy bear parts onto her design.
