(B)
It was a windy autumn afternoon. Ten-year-old Tom was flying his new kite in the park near his house. It was a bright red kite shaped like a dragon, and Tom was very proud of it. He had spent weeks building it with his grandpa.
Suddenly, a strong gust of wind caught the kite and lifted it high into the air. Tom held on tight, but the string (线) slipped away. It all happened in a sudden! He watched in horror as the kite flew higher and higher, finally disappearing behind a group of tall trees.
Tom ran after it, calling out, “No! Come back!” He searched for hours, but he couldn’t find it anywhere. He felt sad and disappointed. He went home and told his grandpa what happened.
“Don’t worry, Tom,” his grandpa said. “We’ll make another one. But first, let’s go for a walk in the woods tomorrow morning. Maybe we’ll find something interesting there.”
The next morning, Tom and his grandpa went for a walk in the woods. They didn’t find the kite, but they saw many beautiful things. They saw colourful leaves, squirrels playing, and a clear, blue stream (小溪). Tom forgot about his lost kite for a while.
On their way home, they passed by the park again. And there it was, Tom’s red dragon kite, caught in the branches of a tall tree near the edge of the woods!
Tom was so happy! He climbed the tree carefully and got his kite.
“See, Tom?” his grandpa said. “Sometimes, when you stop looking for something, it appears right in front of you.”
Tom smiled. He learned that sometimes, letting go is the best way to find what you’re looking for.
