四、阅读(共两节,满分 25 分)
第一节 阅读理解(每小题 2 分,共 20 分)
(A)
Tom walked into Mr Green’s backyard, where the old man was practising basketball. Tom’s family had just moved next door, and he felt lonely with no friends around.
“Why so sad?” asked Mr Green, wiping sweat on his face.
“There aren’t any kids around to play with,” Tom sighed. “I have nothing to do.”
Mr Green smiled. “You remind me of Mike, a boy who lived here years ago. Too bad you two young boys couldn’t have lived here at the same time.”
“What did he do when he was bored?” Tom asked.
“He played basketball,” answered Mr Green.
Tom looked at the basketball hoop. “Could I try too?”
Mr Green threw him a ball. “Start with shooting practice!”
“Thanks!” said Tom. Tom spent the afternoon aiming at the hoop. When the ball finally swished through the net, he cheered. Still, he wished Mike could see it.
The next day, Tom came to Mr Green’s yard. “What else did Mike do?”
“He studied basketball strategies,” Mr Green replied. “His team even won a school competition.”
Tom frowned. “That sounds hard. I just like playing.”
Mr Green laughed, “Start by reading this!” He passed Tom a notebook.
Tom read the notes carefully. That evening, he tried new moves. Though his moves weren’t perfect at first, he kept practising and slowly improved.
One day, Mr Green waved him over. “Mike also explored the attic (阁楼). Want to see?”
In the dusty attic, Tom found a shiny trophy: “1st Place in Basketball. Mike Green. 1980”.
“Do you think Mike would play with me now?” Tom asked happily.
Mr Green laughed. “I believe he’d challenge you to a match!”
