To attract people’s attention, red is often the best choice, because red can make people feel more nervous than the other colours.
Green, however, has neutral effect on people’s emotions, so green means “Everything is OK. Please go on.” Green also has the meaning of peace and calm. So we can go at a green light.
Yellow can also attract people’s attention. And yellow is the best colour to match red and green very well. We don’t choose white because a white light is hard to see in the daytime.
