[常见动物] Do you know what is the world's tallest animal? Yes, it is the giraffe. But how do giraffes sleep and drink?
You may think it's difficult for them to sleep, but they have no such problems because giraffes don't often stop for a snooze(打盹). As they are so tall—males(雄性) can grow up to 18 feet(英尺). Giraffes living in the wild actually have the shortest sleep of all mammals(哺乳动物), about an hour every day. When they sleep, they seldom lie down and sleep for minutes at a time, since it's difficult for them to get up again and it's dangerous in the wild. But the giraffes in the zoo sleep around 4.6 hours per day, mostly at night. They usually sleep lying down.
Drinking water may cause problems for them because their long necks are difficult to reach the ground. To drink, they must spread(分开) their legs in an uncomfortable way. However, this makes it easier for other animals like Africa's big cats to catch them. As a result, they get most of their water by eating plants. They only need to drink water every few days.
Unluckily, because of the pollution and humans' killing, more and more giraffes are in danger now.
