B
It was my first day for Grade Seven. As a shy girl, I read books all alone during the breaks while most of my classmates were trying to make new friends. And I was doing well until the third lesson on the first day.
A teacher asked us to fill out a questionnaire (调查问卷) to help us know each other quickly. I finished it carefully. After the teacher collected the sheets (单子), she mixed them up and redistributed (重新分配) them to the class. One by one, we read out the student's name and our two favourite answers. My sheet went to a short boy. His “favourite answers” of mine were the two worst ones.
The first question was “What's your favourite movie?” While other kids wrote the latest films, my answer was *The Wizard of Oz* (《绿野仙踪》). It is a film made in 1939. The black-and-white movie is even older than my grandparents. The next question was “Where would you like to travel?” The others said “Australia” or “Japan”. I wrote, “Wherever a good book takes me.” A loud laugh broke out immediately, because to my classmates, my answers were too unusual.
My face turned red. I looked at my schoolbag. How I wish I could disappear inside it! But then, something amazing happened. A voice from the back of the room said, “Cut it out!” It was Michael Siever, a popular boy. The room went quiet. I looked at him thankfully.
Fifteen years have passed since then. I don't remember the classmates but Michael. Until now we have often chatted with each other on the phone. I can't forget how it felt when he spoke up for me. Michael has not only become a friend of mine, he is also a hero in my eyes.
