B
"Are you ready?" I asked myself as I waited for my turn. I was about to give my first presentation (演讲) in high school.
Once more, I repeated the script in my head. Suddenly, I heard my name being called. My heart started racing; my hands were sweating (流汗). Forty pairs of eyes were fixed on me. "Relax!" the teacher said with a smile. "I see you've prepared a lot!"
My middle school head teacher often stressed the importance of preparation. "Remember Benjamin Franklin's words," he would say to us before every big test. "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail (失败)." Even now, his advice remains in my mind.
Sometimes, it's hard to feel prepared. I had done a lot of research on my topic for that presentation. I wrote out every word of my script. I practised five times in front of a mirror. But how could I be sure I was truly ready?
My teacher said I did well. She also told me about her first class as a teacher. "My legs kept shaking. My face felt like it was on fire. I was afraid to look at my students," she said with a laugh. "I worked hard to be ready for that day, but I never felt like I was. Anyway, I survived my first class."
Do you often get nervous (紧张) before a big day? That's okay. Do your best to prepare and then just relax. Remember, you're not alone in feeling "unprepared".
