五、阅读理解
Africa is a great place for wildlife. But do you know the Big Five? They are the five most powerful and dangerous animals in Africa. Are you ready to meet them?
Elephant
I am the biggest animal in the Big Five. In fact, I am the largest land animal in the world! Look at my tusks. I use them to dig for food and water. Sometimes I use them to fight others.
Lion
I am the king of the grasslands! My roar( 吼声) is scary and my paws are sharp. My wife looks after our kids. But she also hunts more often than I do. We sleep for up to 20 hours a day.
African buffalo( 非洲水牛)
I have sharp horns and strong legs. Even lions do not dare( 敢) to attack me! I live in a group of up to 1,000 members. Do you see the birds sitting on my back? They are my friends. They help me clean my skin.
Leopard( 花豹)
I am good at running, climbing trees, and even swimming. I often take my prey( 猎物) into trees, so other big animals cannot find it. I don’t like to share food or play with others. You can hardly see me during the day.
Rhino
I cannot see well and I get angry easily. I can run up to 55 km per hour, much faster than top Olympic runners. There are only a few of my kind in the world now. We need your protection.
