二、阅读理解

(2025·常州期中)“What's your favourite sport, Mike?” Ms Smith asks.
Mike thinks for a moment (片刻). Everyone in the class is looking at him. He is nervous (紧张的). He needs a good answer. “I like football.” Everyone smiles. A few students say, “I like football too!”
That is a safe answer. Mike really likes ice hockey (冰球运动), but no one else in the class likes it. He wishes he can tell his true feelings, but he worries about what they will say. They will say things like, “Ice hockey? Why?” or “What is that?” They don't know about it.
Mike comes from Maryland. All the kids there like hockey. But here in Florida, kids love football. He doesn't really understand why they don't like hockey.
He asks his dad when he gets home. “Why don't the kids here like ice hockey?”
His dad smiles. “Their families grow up (成长) watching football. They like football. We grow up watching hockey, so we like hockey.”
“They are so similar (相似的).”
“Why don't you invite some kids to the next game?” Dad asks. “We will take them with us.”
Mike does that. He asks his friends Dave and Tommy. They do not know about ice hockey. They never watch a hockey game before. They are excited to see.
At the game, they have hot dogs and cola. They watch the game. Dave and Tommy ask Mike many questions about the rules and the teams. They watch with great interest. All of them have fun.
The next time at school when Ms Smith asks Mike what his favourite sport is, he says, “Ice hockey.”
Dave and Tommy smile and say, “We like hockey too!”
Mike is happy. He likes it when other people like the things he likes. He has friends who understand him.
