新趋势·培养科学精神 All of us learn poems by Li Bai and Du Fu from a young age. Both of the poets lived more than 1 300 years ago. Can you imagine them now standing in front of you reciting poems?
At the World Robot Conference(WRC) 2023, the "poets" appeared in the form of human-like robots. They were both dressed in ancient Chinese clothes. "Li Bai" was reciting his famous poem Invitation to Wine(《将进酒》). "Du Fu" sat beside him and listened carefully, with a smile on his face.
The WRC 2023 took place in Beijing between August 16th and 22nd. More than 160 companies from around the world took part in the event. They showed nearly 600 kinds of robots. For about 10 percent of them, it was their first public appearance.
The human-like robots were the most popular with visitors. They not only look like humans but, more importantly, can understand human language and follow orders. The pet-shaped robots also attracted(吸引) a large number of visitors. The CyberDog 2, for example, "enjoys" being tickled(挠痒) by its owner under its chin(下巴). What's more, it can do many movements like a real dog.
Robots are here to stay. How will they change the world? We'll just have to wait and see.
