一、阅读理解
Plastic bottles and old tires(轮胎) are not objects that usually appear in a PE class. To the teachers who have won the Active Schools Awards, such rubbish can be changed into teaching tools or sports equipment.
Every year,100 prizes are awarded for excellent examples of school PE programmes. More than 200 teachers are included in the programme. Teachers need to show their creativity in helping the students to experience the joy of sports through recycling(回收). For example,a plastic bottle would be changed into a stick and used by children to push a small ball across the field.
What kind of programmes would become a prize winner? The judges(评委) explain that they pay attention to whether an activity is eco-friendly,safe,and popular with students. In addition, the amount of exercise should be considered.
The Active Schools Awards programme greatly improves the quality of PE classes in rural(乡村的) areas. Each year,30 outstanding examples will be collected into a booklet. Teachers from rural areas can use the fun lessons directly from this and then provide better and more interesting PE lessons for their students in the villages.
Winning the prize could help the rural schools improve their sports facilities(设施). After three PE teachers from Gansu Province won the award, the programme helped each school build a new soccer field. It was interesting that the fields were made from recycled materials such as used sportswear. After all,one man's rubbish can be another man's treasure.
The programme plans to build more eco-friendly playing fields in the future to provide children with a safe space to play, even in the far mountains of China.
